Beautiful, glowing skin is a goal that almost all of us have – there’s just something radiant about healthy skin. Healthy skin doesn’t just show that you care about your complexion – no, a radiant face shows that you are in balance inside and out.

Many of us spend exorbitant amounts of money on skin creams to try to achieve that healthy skin look. Most of these are only temporary (with a few that are quite effective, more on that later) and your skin will return to how it’s always been, until you fix the issue from the inside.

Carry a water bottle around with you so you can get optimal water wherever you go to keep your hydration in check. Aim for 8 to 10 glasses of water a day to keep your skin looking flawless.

  1. Get your Minerals!

It is very important to get that right amount of vitamins and minerals in your diet to keep your skin looking and feeling great. Some important nutrients that you should make an effort to get in your diet are Vitamin E, healthy fats and oils from things like olive oil, and antioxidants from blueberries and green tea.

Try a green drink in the morning to give yourself essential nutrients that you might otherwise miss in a normal day. I like to carry these Organifi GO Packs around with me to easily get my body what it needs.

  1. Get the proper amount of sleep

Lack of a good night’s sleep can really ruin your skin – just ask those dark under eye circles you see when you are tired. Getting good, quality sleep is essential to healthy skin. Try setting up some bed time rituals, things that you do every night before bed that tells your body that you are preparing to go to bed. Good, healthy habits lead to a good and healthy life!

A healthy skin care routine consists of cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing. One aspect of skin care that you may be neglecting is a good exfoliation regiment. Exfoliation removes the top layer of dead skin cells and helps promote new, healthy skin being formed.

Performing a proper exfoliation routine also helps to increase blood flow to your skin, helping to give you that soft, rosy look that will really make you shine! My recommendation is to exfoliating at least once a week, I tend to do a gentle exfoliation twice a week as part of my routine.

  1. Quality Moisturizer

A good moisturizer will keep your skin hydrated and feeling good. A proper moisturizer is super important for holding moisture in your skin so it does not dry out prematurely. Apply a good quality cream a few minutes after a shower to trap the moisture from the shower in your skin!

  1. Build Your Barrier

Your skin is being bombarded with toxins, pollutants, dirt, oil and everything else the world can throw at it on a daily basis. It is important that you build up tough skin that can withstand the abuse and come out even stronger. Your first line of defense in your barrier should be a product with lots of antioxidants.

These antioxidants destroy free-radicals that build up within your body, without antioxidants these free-radicals would build up and wreak havoc on your body.

In addition to getting a bountiful array of antioxidants in your diet, make sure to also use a face cream with them built in. Look for products that combine both fat-soluble antioxidants like Vitamin A and E with water soluble ones like Vitamin C.

  1. Refresh with Increased Growth and Repair

The idea with growth factors is to build up the skin from the inside out. Using these growth factors, along with peptides, scientists have been able to stimulate collagen production leading to fuller, more plump skin.

New research is also coming on on DNA repair enzymes, which work to prevent damage to our DNA. Around age 30, these enzyme levels begin to decline and your DNA can be in jeopardy. But by using some of these products with DNA repair enzymes, you can actually reverse some of the effects of sun damage and work to prevent cancer before it even forms. These powerful products also work to slow the development of collagenase, an enzyme that breaks down collagen.

  1. Exercise

Getting quality exercise for 30 minutes a day, 4 – 5 times a week is a super way to get beautiful skin. Sweating out impurities and toxins is amazing for not just your skin, but your body in general. Exercise greatly boosts circulation which provides your skin with important nutrients to keep it looking it’s best.

  1. Stop Smoking Now

If you smoke, I hate to tell you that it is doing tons of damage to not only your lungs, but also your skin. Smoking ages the skin much quicker and can lead to pigmentation problems, wrinkles, and dull lifeless skin. Our environments are already polluted enough – no need to add more bad stuff to the equation!

  1. Change Your Pillow Case

Changing your pillow case frequently can help reduce breakouts and blemishes. Here’s another tip: try using silk and satin pillow cases over cotton ones. Cotton can dehydrate your skin leaving it looking tired and dull.

  1. Coconut Oil

This is one of my favorite skin care tips: use coconut oil, everywhere and for everything! Coconut oil is a wonderful moisturizer, just one application a day can keep skin fresh, radiant and supple for hours on end.

This healthy oil contains lauric acid, a natural anti-microbial that helps the oil penetrate deep into pores and to provide moisture. Coconut oil also works as an antioxidant, helping to shield your skin from free radicals. You can also use coconut oil when you cook for a healthy alternative to vegetable oil.

  1. Control Stress

Learn to control and change your response to stress so that it is positive. Take relaxing baths, chill out and find a positive response. I recommend meditating for at least 10 minutes every day, try to get 2 meditation sessions daily, one in the morning and one at night.

  1. The Right Products

Select healthy products that will enhance your skin and not make it worse. Make sure you are using a sunscreen daily, and reapplying the sunscreen every two hours, or more often if you are sweating or perspiring a lot.

Avoid strong soaps and products that contain sulfates, as these tear all the oils off your skin, even the natural ones that your skin needs to stay in it’s best shape!
